It's another review from On Both Fronts: special needs mommy and product guru! I was sent these funky looking utensils for Seamus to try. The Grabease is said to help babies with self feeding with short, chubby handles. OT approved. We just had to try it out!
Grabease : The BasicsVisiting the website, www.grabease.com, I clicked on the 'About' tab. Because, why support a company if you don't even know anything about them? The founder is a mom of three looking for a way to solve modern problems: one of them being self feeding. She wanted a way to support her own children in their personal development and help them reach their goals with appropriate tools. Now onto the reviews section of the website, because hello! I want to know what people are loving about the product. Lots of love for the stylish colors, but more love over the idea of the product. Many reviews claim to have young children loving the utensils and using them with ease compared to others. Some children as young as 10 months old are grasping onto the spoons and forks and taking the first steps to self feed. That's amazing! Let me just give you an idea of the reviews.
Our impressionsIt was certainly a bit different to see the spoon and fork with thicker and shorter handles that most baby utensils. However, I've got to say that the approach is GREAT. It makes easier for babies and toddlers to learn to feed themselves. What parent doesn't love that?? Anyway, onto our thoughts about the product! Full disclosure: I was sent the product but only as an act to help improve my son's feeding journey. I was not asked to review the product. I am doing this myself because I think this product should be shown to parents! Well the son they were sent for (Seamus, age two but looks like 9 months) has joint contractures that make it difficult for him to handle most things. I'm afraid he was unable and disinterested in using them. However, he is NOT at the level to be self feeding. It was just a trial for him, and the product. Hilo, age four, actually prefers the Grabease utensils. They have an easier grip so that he can control more of what goes on the fork or spoon. He's struggled with frustration when he is unable to get something on his fork or spoon because let's face it, the toddler utensils offer them little control if they are working on motor skills. Hilo has come to like and use the 'baby' utensils pretty regularly. I love the mouthpieces too! Hilo isn't shoving a ton of food down his throat because of a big spoon. He is simply able to grab a little mouthful. Less mess, yay me!
