Now nothing is better than good ol' charity that's out there doing right for their community with a loving cause. On Both Fronts is proud to showcase a lovely charity by the name of Magical Mail (sometimes known as Magical Mail Boxes). They send out cards or boxes filled with goodies to children who are either sick or genetically fragile. Items depend on the senders choice and can range from stickers to books to pajamas, to movies, to whatever they like! Why was it picked? Because they cater solely to the special needs/medically fragile community. Here's why we love 'em: 1. It's an uplifting taskFor most kids, getting something in the mail is a bit exciting. Who sends actual mail anymore? No one knows. So little kids get all excited when something physical came in the mail with their name on it. Sad to say, but it's like a rare occurrence, something only adults without online bill pay get to experience... Imagine being a special needs child with really no other outlets of people or support. Some are very sick, in the hospital, with big concerns of their own. Now they aren't delivering a cure or a better diagnosis, but children are getting to experience a little thrill of "what's in this?" or "who sent this box?". A simple, uplifting gesture from one stranger to another, to just put on a smile. 2. who it benefitsI'd say the special needs and medically fragile community are a bit underrepresented or a bit overlooked in terms of need. They are alive, and given support of family. But who else out there is taking the time to view these people as people, not conditions, diseases or syndromes? Feeling left behind by other children their age can be a depressing thing when looking at what they have ahead of them, so a small charity based on the idea of spreading happiness to those who could use a little more of it is always checked high in our books! 3. indivdualityWith many charities, it is an unseen donation. Unseen benefit. Sometimes, not always. However, Magical Mail/Boxes is different. The senders of the mail get thank you messages and pictures posted on the website so YOU can see the change you made. Plus, you are given an individual child who gives you their interests, what they're going through. Basically a story that you are adding a part in to. Interested? Here's how it worksAs a potential sender, you message any one of their social profiles (linked below) and express your interest in getting on their list. Then they will send you a couple children to choose from, along with their diagnosis, age, likes, and whatever else can be provided, including their address. You then are given the responsibility of shipping/sending it out. It's important to remember that children look forward to that. In the past there have been many children left 'hanging' because senders did not follow through with their promises. It is a simple card or box to ship to you, but to them, it is looking forward to a happy day. Please, keep their little hearts in mind.
